The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
