England along with Welsh Drawn in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by rugby icons including two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts have been drawn in the same pool for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, promising a highly-anticipated pool stage encounter in Australia. They are joined in Group F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw echoes their infamous clash in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground played a part in the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

The Irish and Scotland have likewise been drawn in a pool once again, just as the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland secured a convincing victory, with their opponents failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, both made a strong impression as underdogs in France, round out that Pool D.

Notably, the victors of these two groups are kept apart from holders and world number one the Springboks until the final, assuming the South Africans win their own group.

Knockout Implications

If the groups conclude in line with the current world rankings, other leading contenders like New Zealand and France would remain separated from the likes of the English and the Irish all the way to the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the remaining top-ranked nation on that side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts Australia find themselves together with their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Group A.

The Wallabies will kick off the tournament in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at launch the competition.

In other groups, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, Georgia and the Oaks. The French team are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the United States and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will take on Fiji, Spain and Canada as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in 2023.

This edition will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in the competition's history.

Although the winner of England and Wales's group may be kept apart from some of the game's biggest beasts initially, they will have to face the runner-up from Pool B – probably the Italians – in the last 16.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will face a team that finished third from the pool stages.
